TitlePortfolio: students' art work
DescriptionThe portfolio contains 30 pieces loosely mounted on black sugar paper and created by students of Hilda Margaret Whitaker née Hodge in various media. Each of the pieces is numbered and described individually as follows: 1. A block print on scraperboard representation of a stylised kingfisher sitting on a branch, measuring 6"x4"; 2. Stylised fish rendered in watercolour and ink; 3. Stylised peacock rendered in watercolour and ink; 4. Paper cut silhouette figure and border on a pastel crayoned background, signed on the reverse by Mawah Osman, Group 5; 5. Paper cut figure, tree and border on a red background; 6. A black and white photograph as a 2D representation of a 3D installation featuring figures, a dragon dance and a peacock; 7. A black and white photograph as a 2D representation of a 3D installation featuring a figure, 2 cattle and a sheep, all made of modelling clay; 8. A star and leaf print design in paint and ink, rendered on newspaper and signed by Lee Mar Chow; 9. A watercolour painting depicting an antelope drinking at a tree lined water hole with a snake watching, by Jeoh Pek Hong; 10. An abstract pattern inspired by butterflies, birds, trees and flowers in watercolour and ink, by Law Jack Yoon; 11. A watercolour desert scene featuring cacti, butterflies, a turtle and snakes; 12. A watercolour desert scene depicting 2 cowboys riding horses, cacti and birds, signed by Zalwha; 13. A stylised rooster painted in watercolour , signed by L.W. Leng and dated Friday 21.10.55. This painting is heavily stained and foxed with creasing and small tears to the paper; 14. An underwater scene in watercolour, featuring jellyfish, shellfish, shells and fish, signed by T. T. Ghee, G7; 15.An underwater watercolour scene featuring fish, shellfish, starfish and shrimp, signed on the reverse by R.I. Chan, G7; 16. An underwater scene rendered in watercolour featuring lobsters and signed on the reverse by Loo Song Hong; 17. This jungle scene in watercolour features a parrot and a snake and is signed on the reverse by A. Hamid; 18. A paper cut on a red background of 2 dancing figures, the female playing a banjo-like instrument and the male smoking a pipe and holding a bird in a cage, with a paper cut border and ink detail; 19. A paper cut of a puppet with painted detail, signed by Xavier Nathan, G7; 20. A paper cut depicting 2 dancers within a border, signed on the reverse by Pushpavathi. This item has heavy staining and foxing; 21. A paper cut design mounted over lace and on the reverse, 22. An intricate pattern drawn in blue and black ink, attributed to Chin Hai Yong; 23. A geometric paper cut design attributed to Wai Gnoh; 24. 2 symmetrical paper cut designs attributed to D. Saras; 25. A watercolour rendtition of a bird in a tree, painted in dark hues by Francis Chai; 26. An abstract design in ink and watercolour inspired by flora and fauna. This is painted on a double spread from a journal and signed on the reverse by Chan Yoke Yen; 27. An abstract watercolour design with floral motifs painted on a double spread from a journal wih 'Nodin Friday' painted on the reverse. The bottom left corner is missing and there are a number of small tears around the edges; 28. A watercolour wash over newsprint provides a background for a petal and leaf inspired motif, signed by Zauyah, G3; 29. A watercolour design inspired by flowers, leaves and petals and signed by Zaleha on the reverse; 30. A greeting in scroll format, hand written and painted in delicate watercolour, depicts a waterfall and river scene. The salutation to Miss Hodge is signed by 10 students.
