| Description | This album contains an eclectic mix of photographs, travel tickets and documents, small mementos, business cards, newspaper and journal articles, ink, pencil and watercolour sketches and annotations in Hilda Margaret Whitaker née Hodge's hand, which articulate her journey to Malaysia in June 1987. Included in the loose items inserted in the inside front cover are 2 sketches: an ink drawing of 2 boys by what is possibly a swimming pool and a pencil sketch of a Malaysian house. The items in the album itself are mounted on thick paper and annotated. Meetings with former students and places visited are recorded with photographs, travel tickets, menus, newspaper and journal articles. There are a number of keenly observed mounted sketches: watercolour and ink view of the Selangor Club overlooking Padang in company with Chee Woh and Tans; charcoal and ink sketch of a village near Pantai Dasar Sabak; watercolour and ink sketch of a boat and crosspiece detail and pencil and ink detail of a boat prow, Sabok Kelantan; pencil sketches of scenes observed from the bus, Penambang; pencil sketch: Rainy evening at bus, taxi station and market, Kuala Trengganu; small pencil sketch of a child at a hotel table. The final page of the album documents a newspaper article written about the visit to Malaysia. |
