| Description | This album contains colour photographs, postcards, magazine cuttings, programmes and pencil sketches which document Margaret Whitaker's travels in Bali and Java. The album is divided into two parts, the first featuring Bali and the second, Java. The Balinese section focuses on textiles and in particular, batik and bundle weaving (tenum ikat, which is described in a leaflet taped into the album and produced by the Sari Pacific Jakarta Hotel) and Balinese dance forms, puppetry and gamelin music. The Javanese section features the Buddhist sanctuary, Borobudur, its temple and sculptures, gamelin players and singers and performances by the Ramayama Ballet. In addition to the mounted items, the album has 18 inserts which take the form of mounted photographs, postcards, articles and pencil sketches mounted on card. There are a number of pencil sketches in this album, by Margaret Whitaker, some mounted in the album and some on card inserts. Sketches 1-8 represent Bali and 9-12, Java: 1.
