TitleRegister of Electors: Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council
DescriptionKnowsley Metropolitan Borough Council was created in 1974 under the Local Government Act, 1972 and brought together a number of townships which had previously sat in the Urban Districts of Huyton, Kirkby and Prescot and the Rural Districts of Whiston and West Lancashire. This series of Registers first lists eligible electors in the Huyton, Ormskirk and Widnes Parliamentary Constituencies of the County of Lancaster that were brought together to form Knowsley in 1974, including the electoral rolls for the townships of Huyton, Prescot, Knowsley, Eccleston, Kirkby, Bold, Hale, Halewood, Rainhill, Tarbock, Whiston and Windle. The registers reflect the constituency changes made following the Local Government Boundary Commission for England's review of electoral arrangements in Knowsley, published on 6 May 1982, which resulted in the creation of Knowsley North Constituency and Knowsley South Constituency and changes brought about following the implementation of the Representation of the People Act 2002. Later changes created the constituencies of Knowsley North and Sefton East and Knowsley South. The Fifth Periodic Review of Westminster Constituencies by the Boundary Commission resulted in the dissolution of Knowsley North and Sefton East and Knowsley South and the creation of Knowsley, Garston & Halewood and St.Helen's & Whiston in 2010.

The electoral registers up to 1978-1979 were printed by Swale Press Limited for the Registration Officer of the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley; from 1979-1980 - 1981-1982, they were printed by Knowsley M.B.C. and published by D. Willgoose, Electoral Registration Officer and from February 1982 - 1990, the registers were printed by Knowsley M.B.C. and published by R. Penn, Electoral Registration Officer. From 1990-1991, the registers were printed by Knowsley M.B.C and published by D.G. Henshaw, Electoral Registration Officer and from 1998-1999 onwards, printed and published by the Electoral Registration Officer.

The register may only be supplied as a copy in the format in which the repository holds it, and it may only be supplied for research purposes and not to be exploited for commercial gain.
