DescriptionThis document is a sealed and illuminated certificate of the grant of freedom of the Borough of Knowsley conferred on The Right Honourable Sir Harold Wilson, K.G., O.B.E., F.R.S., M.P. on Wednesday 18th May 1977 in recognition of the eminent service rendered by Sir Harold Wilson to the Borough, both as the Right Honourable Member of Parliament for the Huyton Constituency since 1950 and as the former Prime Minister of Her Majesty's Government. A Special Meeting of the Council was held at the Huyton Suite for the purpose of admitting Sir Harold Wilson to be an Honorary Freeman of the Borough, attended by The Mayor, Councillor F. Lawler, J.P. and Councillors [K.M.B.C. minutes, KA66/O/M9]. The Common Seal of the Council of the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley is attached to the certificate, which is signed by D. Willgoose, Chief Executive and Town Clerk. The certificate was designed by E.A. Bright of Shaw & Sons Ltd., 108 Temple Chambers, Temple Court, London. At the same ceremony, Sir Harold Wilson presented the Council with the Grant of Arms, designed by Mr. H. Ellis-Tomlinson, M.A., F.H.S. An order of proceedings is also available.
