DescriptionThis black and white photograph shows the Perrying Ceremony. Until the 1936, Officers of the Court Leet took part in this traditional ceremony. Throughout the year, a fine of 2d was levied on Tenants who failed to attend the Court Leet when required. The coins raised by the levy were collected and the Officers would throw the heated pennies from the windows of the Town Hall into Market Place below, where crowds of children would scramble to pick the pennies up.
