DescriptionReport submitted to the Director General of Filling Factories (D.G.F.F.) into the circumstances of and subsequent actions following a serious explosion at the Royal Ordnance Factory, Kirkby on 16 September 1944 in Building 5.C.38. The report includes: foreword by D.G.F.F. and appendices which consist of i. A diagram of the fuze design for an 8lb H.E. (high explosive) bomb; ii. Report on a visit to Rainham, Essex for trials on demolition of 8lb bomb cluster on 11 October 1944; ii. Instructions for patrols on duty at Posts 2, 3 and 4 on Perimeter Road; iii. Day to day notes on demolition and bomb removal at 5.C.38, kept by Fitzmaurice (Chief Technical Assistant W.L. Fitzmaurice); iv. Report on Explosion in C.5.38 (sic) on 10.9.1944 by P.E. Masters, Director of Production; v. Directions for the preparation of demolition charges; vi.plan of the Charley Wood site and photographs of the explosion site and detonation area. Please note that in addition to detailed accounts of the work carried out, this item includes descriptions of a sensitive nature concerning the recovery of the fatally injured.
