Description | Home Secretary Sir John Simon announced the issue of A.R.P. lapel badges in Home Security Circular 701582/10 on 23 February 1937. The badges were designed by Eric Gill for the Royal Mint and were produced in silver from 1936-1940 and in base metal from February 1940, produced by companies such as Marples and Beasley. The badges were issued to Local Authorities by the Home Office, to be given to volunteers who had undergone and completed the relevant training in Air Raid Precautions. This example, in base metal, has a half-moon button hole lapel fixing and was discovered at Mill Dam, Kirkby in 2019. |
